What Is a Brazilian—Do I Have to Take It All Off?

You don’t have to go full-Brazilian unless you want to.

We’ll talk through the options, adjust for your pain tolerance, and keep it cute no matter what you choose. But if you’ve ever wondered what a Brazilian really includes (without that “ummm…” call to the front desk), let’s talk about it.

A Brazilian typically means all the hair off the labia and booty —front to back, smooth-smooth.

But! You can absolutely leave some hair up top if that’s what you want. Just let us know your thoughts during your appointment—we’re here to make it work for you.

The most common shapes people leave are:

  •  A landing strip (a neat vertical line)
  • A triangle (small, large, whatever suits you)

I’ve heard the triangle called a martini glass, a champagne flute (smaller), and even... a Doritto chip. Hahaha.

A Brazilian can evolve. Some people go bare every time; others switch it up and try out shapes.

Just know: The more often you take everything off, the harder it can be to grow hair back evenly if you want a shape later. Hair can stop growing in spots. (One client once started using brow serum down there to try and bring it back for a new era in her life.)

The Landing Strip: Why Some of Us Still Love It

Let’s talk about the landing strip. You know, that classic vertical line of hair left during a Brazilian? It’s simple, it’s sleek—and honestly, it still slaps.

The shape and thickness can vary depending on your preference, or sometimes what works best with your anatomy. Because here’s the truth: every vulva is different. Some people have what we lovingly call “innies,” others have “outies.” A landing strip can help create a visual flow, especially if you have more prominent outer anatomy. It draws the eye in, elongates the area, and adds a clean-but-not-bare vibe that some people really love.

Personally? I’m a fan. I like how it softens the transition—it makes everything feel intentional. Plus, some clients choose it because it's less common these days, and that makes them feel unique. Like, in a sea of smooth-smooth Brazilians, the landing strip says: I’m doing this my way.

The Triangle: Small, Large, and Totally Yours

Let’s talk about the triangle. Whether you want it small, large, or somewhere in between, the triangle shape is all about what suits you and your vibe.

One thing to know: pain tolerance varies and fun fact, the pubic mound often feels more sensitive than the labial area itself. So if you’re worried about discomfort, a triangle can be a smart choice since it leaves hair where your skin is a bit more sensitive, making the experience gentler.

I also hear from a lot of folks who want to avoid feeling “pubescent” — whatever that means to you. Remember, that’s just a feeling, not a fact. You’re grown, you’re glowing, and you get to choose how you present yourself—no rules.

For those with pear-shaped bodies, a larger triangle can create a flattering, balanced look. Smaller triangles work wonders if you’re rocking thongs or just want a neat, defined shape without too much fuss.

And here’s a pro tip: if ingrowns love to make you their home, the triangle can be your best friend. It’s a shape that often helps reduce those pesky bumps.

At the end of the day, it’s all about what feels good, looks good, and works for you

Not Ready to go Bare? Or Just Not Trying to Be a Hero Today?

Whether you want to leave a little or skip the sting, we’re here for it. You can ease in, keep it custom, keep it fun and still walk out smooth and proud.

There’s also the Extended Bikini, sometimes called a Fuller Bikini. That’s:

  • One finger-width of hair left on the labia
  • Booty hair removed
  • A little more coverage than a full Brazilian

A Classic Bikini or sometimes known as a Basic Bikini sugaring usually means:

  • Two finger-widths of hair left on each side
  • A clean-up of the top triangle
  • Basically, just keeping it swimsuit-ready.

At the right studio (hi, welcome), your sugarist will tailor the top to match what you’re planning to wear. Swimwear prep? We got you.

Moral of the story:

This is your body. Your choice. Your shape.
Whether you want it all off, a little left, or something in between—there’s no wrong way to do it.

Talk to your sugarist. We’ve seen and heard it all. We're here to listen, guide, and sugar with intention—so you can leave feeling clean, confident, and completely respected.
